We will be exploring land-based learning as a vibrant community-engaged pedagogy that incorporates Indigenous sciences and humanities. Through teachings about the natural world that inform traditional and contemporary worldviews and practices, we will engage lifeways, language, stories, music, handicrafts, inside and beyond the classroom with a particular focus on seasonally-appropriate topics. Students will participate in a combination of classroom seminars and experiential learning designed to provide a general overview of Haudenosaunee philosophies and teachings regarding the lands, waters, flora, and fauna of this region, as well as environmental perspectives from other Indigenous peoples.
