This course will deeply examine Indigenous health and wellbeing through a critical lens. Indigenous Peoples and communities face some of the worst health outcomes, the highest exposures to toxins and other health risks, and some of the worst delivery of medical care. Indigenous ways of knowing regarding research, medicine, and wellbeing proliferate in communities, yet are often overlooked in official and large-scale public health and biomedical research and practice. This course will equip students to analyze critically the assumptions on which health research and medical interventions are based. Students will be able to utilize these theories to understand historical and contemporary issues in Indigenous public health and wellbeing. This course is cross listed with IDS 340
