This Wilderness First Aid (WFA1) course is designed for an individual or small group that travels beyond pavement and into the outdoors. Wilderness is defined as being 60 minutes or more away from help. WFA1 covers Patient Assessment, Chest Injuries, Shock and Heart Attack, Head (Brain) and Spine Injuries, Bone and Joint Injuries, and Wounds and Wound Infection. Using the National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) recommendations and its guidelines, you will receive both theory and practical up-to-date training. Students may complete WFA1 or WFA2 in any order, but must complete BOTH to earn the WFA certification. Certification is valid for 2 years. Note this is a 7-week one credit course that will start mid-semester. WFA1 and WFA2 will be offered in alternating semesters so students can complete the certification in one academic year.
