The supervised internship experience course is intended to provide students the opportunity to complete a substantive professional experience related to their educational goals and career aspirations. This course is available for any student with an internship that provides no less than 150 hours of supervised professional experience during the semester. The goal of the internship is to provide students with the opportunity to gain insight into possible career opportunities, develop a professional network, cultivate professional competencies, and apply what they have learned throughout their academic program to the problems of practice in a professional setting. In this internship, we expect students to reflect on the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) competencies. They should think about these competencies as they develop the learning objectives for the experience at the beginning of the process and they should reflect on those competencies when they complete their internship and write their final reflection papers for the class. Students who have completed this internship previously have worked in areas related to academic advising, financial aid, intercollegiate athletics, pre-college outreach and access programs, and college transition programs and they have completed internships on campus, across the colleges and universities in Western New York and occasionally at institutions globally and across the US.
