This course provides students with an overview of various aspects of the relationship between communication (especially, media) and sports. Topics covered may include the history of mediated sports; how various communication industries program, report, and promote sports and athletes; the audiences who consume mediated sports; and various social issues (e.g., sexual identity, race/ethnicity, politics, criminality) raised, perpetuated, or critiqued by sports coverage.
